Under: Assignments
(Please note: College Prep & Scyldings have additional assignments at the bottom of this page.)
#1. Write a sentence for each of the first ten (10) vocabulary words in Unit One of your vocabulary books. You must use at least seven out of the eight parts of speech (noun, verb, adjective, etc.) in each sentence!
E.g., "The savage (1. adjectives) Vikings (2. noun) pillaged (3. verb) the village (noun) thoroughly (4. adverb) on Saturday (5. prepositional phrase) because (6. conjunction) they (7. pronoun) are boss like that."
#2. Please remember to cover your books and bring them to class if you have not already!
COLLEGE PREP ONLY:
#3. Be prepared to annotate a short reading at the beginning of class! You will be asked to fill out a new KWL chart for the text, identify the main points of the text, write notes & questions in the margins, identify difficult words, and summarize what you've read. Review your list of 10 Nonfiction Reading Strategies.
SCYLDINGS ONLY:
#3. Please write a paragraph comparing and contrasting POV, motive, bias, and audience in the Kohn & Rose articles ("From Degrading to De-Grading" and "I Just Wanna Be Average"). You do not have to touch on all four points for each article -- pick out what you think is the most significant or intriguing to write about.
