"Show, Don't Tell Vocab."

In class, we talked about how effective writing "shows" the audience rather than "tells," using vivid imagery, dialogue, direct action, and interesting diction.  "Telling," on the other hand, is just making boring, straightforward factual statements, without creating a vivid image for the reader.

Pick ten (10) vocab words from Unit IV (I recommend choosing words you struggle with -- give yourself extra practice before the quiz!) and write two sentences for each one.  The first sentence should "tell" me something, and the second sentence should "show" me this same concept.

For example, using the word "esteem"...

TELL: "He held is father in high esteem."
SHOW: "He teared up slightly while telling his children about how hard and uncomplainingly his father worked to support their family."

(Notice that you only have to use the vocabulary word in ONE of your two sentences.)
