1. A DAYS: Complete a Venn diagram (or other organizer) comparing and contrasting Anglo-Saxon and Sumerian culture, using evidence from Beowulf and Gilgamesh respectively.  You have many avenues to explore -- religion, values, economics, warriors, social status, qualities of a good king, etc, etc, etc -- so I should see more than three bullet points!

4B ONLY: You are going to use the "Council of the Gods" organizer to compare and contrast Gilgamesh and Beowulf as heroes / good kings.  You are ultimately trying to decide which was the better hero, remembering that the definition of hero that we're using is "an individual who embodies the virtues/values of his society."

2. THESIS THURSDAY: Using ONE topic from your Venn diagram (4B: "Council" organizer), write a thesis statement about the relationship between Anglo-Saxon and Sumerian culture (4B: Gilgamesh vs. Beowulf).  Once again, make sure you narrow your choices down to a single topic -- "Anglo-Saxon England and ancient Sumeria were very similar" is extremely broad and therefore a bad thesis statement.
