I just stumbled upon this article this weekend, which talks about how fiction can influence us (for good and ill)... it might be something you can use in your projects.

Deadline: March 16th

Here's a link to the music PowerPoint I used in class to demonstrate the epic conventions.  It might be helpful for reviewing for your (short!) F.A. next class.

Extension: A Day Presentations (Pre-AP)

Posted by Amy Kalmar on Thursday, January 12, 2012, In : Announcements
For those who happen to look at this...

It has been brought to my attention that you guys are overachievers, and are taking my little assessment to glorious heights.  While we're going to need to discuss prioritizing and not overburdening yourselves unnecessarily, I don't want to punish hard work.  For those of you scheduled to present tomorrow, I'll give you a few minutes in class to work on your presentations, and then we'll push the presentations themselves back until Tuesday.  This will gi...

Extra Credit Opportunity

Posted by Amy Kalmar on Wednesday, November 16, 2011, In : Announcements
Hi team,

Although generally I avoid giving extra credit for activities not directly related to what we're doing in English class, for the sake of ART I'm violating this principle and offering a small amount (3 quiz/test points) of extra credit for bringing in baked goods for the literary magazine's bake sale, which began today and will continue tomorrow and Friday!  We would love donations of any kind, and the money we raise will be used to defray the cost of printing the magazine.  The litera...

Drum roll, please!

Introducing, the winners of our “A Lie a Day” contest…

The 2A Geats!

It was a thrilling, come-from-behind victory, with nearly 60 points submitted within the final 24 hours of the competition.  In the end, the other sections couldn’t beat the Geats’ sheer dedication and willingness to sacrifice their individual triumph for the good of the whole.  Congratulations, Geats!  You are all total ballers, and I mean that sincerely.  Way to make Beowulf proud!

Congratulations as well to...

Updated "A Lie a Day" Standings!

Posted by Amy Kalmar on Wednesday, September 21, 2011, In : Announcements

Holy Yak!  Suddenly it looks like there's some actual competition... the Geats are still in the lead, but the margin is closing rapidly.  The Waegmundings did a lot of work over the last week, but I'm most impressed at the comeback being staged by the YLFINGS!  And remember... you can submit lies from any day this unit, so it is still ANYONE'S race.  Epic rally time, Volsungs?

** I remembered to weight the data this time, which means that I took the total "points awarded" and divided it by the...

The Geats are currently whipping up on the rest of my Viking hordes!  BUT... 1) there is plenty of time left in this contest; 2) remember that you can submit previous lies-of-the-day for full points.
