1. At the beginning of class, please turn in an annotated version of Alfie Kohn's article, "From Degrading to De-grading."  You should include:

 -- a list of your previous knowledge on the topic;
 -- questions you have about the topic/text before reading;
 -- a prediction about the point the author is trying to make;
 -- highlighting/underlining in the text;
 -- comments and questions written in the margins;
 -- a brief (2-3 sentence) summary of the entire piece at the end.

2. Please find a nonfiction work on the topic of education and bring a printed copy to class.
